Eligibility Checklist

Receive nationally recognised trade training
Join the ADF and learn a trade. You&rsquo;ll receive all the training you need, be paid while you train and can earn industry-recognised qualifications.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Air Force you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

General Entry: Technical

Following completion of the Aircraft Armament Technician course and successful attainment of the competency standards, you’ll be issued with a Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Armament).

Technician Progression Options
There are a number of career options available to you beyond the role Aircraft Armament Technician. Advancement is in healthy competition with those in other technician disciplines and is according to Air Force requirements, regardless of which career path you choose. 

Generally, after completing your Initial Minimum Period of Service (IMPS) obligation, you can also apply for non-technical roles within areas such as personnel management, workforce planning, Military Skills Instructing and the Australian Federation Guard. You might also consider applying for Promotion to Officer Rank within selected categories.

Alternate career pathway to Non-Destructive Inspection Technician (NDITECH)
You'll also be provided with an opportunity to undergo competitive selection and training leading to NDITECH. Once NDI training is complete, you’ll progress from NDITECH Grade 1 to Grade 2, then progress through the ranks to Warrant Officer in competition with other NDITECH members.

As an Aircraft Armament Technician, you’ll be responsible for the upkeep of advanced weapons systems – a role that’s vital to the operational effectiveness of the Air Force. You’ll join a unique team of dedicated professionals that look after some of the world’s most technologically advanced weapons and aircraft systems. You’ll draw on your specialist skills, sound judgment and high standards in a critically important role.

You’ll handle and maintain armament systems, ejection seat systems, air-launched munitions and associated equipment. Working with advanced weaponised aircraft, including the F/A-18F Super Hornet, E/A-18G Growler, and F-35A Lightning II, you’ll maintain aircraft weapon systems, which combine electronic, electrical and mechanical components, and prepare and load various air-launched munitions. You may also get an opportunity to work on air weapons ranges, or in Explosive Ordinance (EO) management or disposal functions, as you progress in your career.

This is no ordinary technician role – and not something you’d find in civilian life. You’ll become an integral part of the Air Force, working with the world’s leading aircraft and state-of-the-art weapon systems as you help protect our country.
