Officers are employed across Australia, both in major cities and regional areas. The location will depend on the Corps you are allocated to.

You will be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Army you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

As an Army Officer, you&rsquo;ll take the lead of a team of soldiers. You&rsquo;ll pick up the fundamentals of being a leader: mentorship, influence, problem solving, decision making, and much more.
There&rsquo;s no leadership experience required. You&rsquo;ll receive world-class training to reach your full leadership potential at the Royal Military College. On completion of your Officer training at RMC, you can preference a specialisation in a number of different roles. No matter your specialisation, your role as an Officer will mold you into a leader armed with the tools to succeed in Army and beyond.
Within your career as an Army Officer, you'll take the lead of a team of highly capable soldiers in new and exciting environments based on your specialisation.
Then, in your Officer career, you&rsquo;ll be physically and mentally challenged every day to be the best leader you can be.
As an Army Officer you will specialise in one of the following roles on completion of your training:

Note: Although we consider preferences and aptitude, you are not guaranteed allocation to your chosen specialisation.
<div class="p">There are two ways to become an Army Officer:</div>
<div class="p">Start your career at the Royal Military College (RMC) where you will learn the skills and knowledge to lead, mentor and inspire teams of highly capable soldiers in any situation.</div>
<div class="p">Alternatively, if you're interested in completing a university degree first then you can study at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA). Here you'll find a healthy balance between academic study towards a degree of your choice and military training that will prepare you for life in the Army. Upon graduating, you&rsquo;ll attend RMC to complete your leadership training.</div>
Whether you start your career at RMC or ADFA, you&rsquo;ll receive the same world-class leadership training, earn a salary while you train and graduate with a stable and guaranteed career path.
