RAEME Corps is represented in most Army units, varying in size from one or two tradespersons, to groups of 20 to 30 tradespersons up to large maintenance units consisting of over 150 personnel in an integrated military and civilian workforce.

You will be paid while you study. On completion of your degree, Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you'll earn at least:

In the Army you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

Mechanical Engineering Officers could be posted to any ground based Workshop in the Australian Army. The majority of these units are located in Brisbane, Townsville, Darwin and Adelaide. There are also many positions within the Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in Bandiana, Victoria as well as the Land Engineering Agency in Melbourne.

You will be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

Officer Entry: Graduate

Throughout your military career you will undertake formal courses of both a military and technical nature in order to be eligible for promotion and broaden your technical competence. These may include: <ul><li>Masters of Project Management (Army Technical Staff Officers Course - ATSOC) conducted at the Australian Defence Force Academy ADFA in Canberra. Positions for a senior Captain/Major each year</li><li>Masters of Science in Military Vehicle Technology at Royal Military College Schrivenham UK. Positions for two Captains/Majors each year</li></ul>

As a Mechanical Engineer in the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME) corps, you will be an integral part of a team of specialists maintaining, modifying, procuring and managing the Australian Army&rsquo;s modern ground-based mechanical equipment.
Examples of the roles you could be employed in include: a Workshop Commander within a Cavalry Unit maintaining a suite of Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicles. You could also be an Operations Officer within a Field Workshop planning the maintenance for a Brigade. Or you could be an Engineering Officer as part of a team defining the technical specifications of the next generation of Army&rsquo;s sniper rifles.
In addition to making technical engineering decisions, you will also be exposed to the full range of general service roles such as a staff officer, logistics planner or instructor. Throughout your career you will be given many development and training opportunities that will enable you to perform in any environment and under all types of conditions, 
After your initial training at your First Appointment Course at the Royal Military College followed up by the Logistic Officer Basic Course, you will likely be employed as a Troop Commander within a Workshop. Here you will be able to learn Army&rsquo;s trades, equipment, maintenance systems and administration. Subsequent postings will likely be within a Systems Program Office within the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group where you will be focusing on engineering issues at the national fleet and project levels. 
You could be offered further education through sponsored Masters level study conducted at the Australian Defence Force Academy or a range of other international universities. Here you will learn more about military engineering and gain skills and knowledge that will advance your career.
