Challenge yourself with a one-year commitment
Develop your skills and take time to think about your future career direction by spending a memorable year in the ADF.
Who it&rsquo;s for: 17-24 year olds wanting a 12-month taste of life in the ADF.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

Your salary once trained

In the Air Force you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

ADF Gap Year

Once you’ve completed your Initial Employment Training (IET), you’ll perform duties in the Administration Assistant role for approximately 7 months at any of the air bases to consolidate your training.

As an Administration Assistant, you'll take on a wide range of important organisational duties to support Air Force members as well as the wider ADF. There are many areas in which you could work such as personnel management, personnel operations, air and ground operations, resource and knowledge management, and communication effects. Plus, you'll have plenty of opportunities to discover which of these areas you really enjoy in this 12-month Gap Year experience.

You’ll generally work in well-equipped offices and be the first point of contact for Air Force members seeking administrative advice and information. You’ll use the ADF’s computerised human resource programs along with other office-based technology. Not all your time will be spent in the office – you may be given the opportunity to live and work under field conditions when participating in military exercises.

Enjoy a highly varied administration, communications, people and resource management role, all while enjoying a 12-month taste of life in the Air Force.
