Join without qualifications
There are many excellent career options in the ADF that generally don&rsquo;t require experience or qualifications. You&rsquo;ll receive all the training you need and be paid while you train.

As an Airborne Electronics Analyst, you&rsquo;ll be part of a team responsible for the surveillance of Australian and international waters, employed on either a long-range P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft or an E-7A Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning Control (AEWC) aircraft. You&rsquo;ll work with some of the most sophisticated electronic surveillance equipment in the world.
You&rsquo;ll be fully trained to detect threats, identify illegal activity and incursions, assist with search and rescue operations, find and track submarines, and assist with battle space management.

On board the P-8A Poseidon or E-7A Wedgetail aircraft, you'll work with a complex suite of sensors, receiving and analysing information that is crucial for the success of missions.
The sensors include:
<ul>
 <li>radar sensors, which you&rsquo;ll use for surface surveillance, detecting classifying contacts such as submarine periscopes warships, weather analysis avoidance, terrain avoidance, classifying contacts for Harpoon missile targeting and search and rescue operations</li>
 <li>the Electro Optics sensor, which you&rsquo;ll use to detect infrared signatures of targets and analyse and classify targets during both day and night </li>
 <li>the Electronic Surveillance Measures (ESM) sensor, which you&rsquo;ll use to search for, intercept and identify electromagnetic emissions</li>
 <li>Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), which you&rsquo;ll use to identify friendly units and assist in maintaining separation from other aircraft</li>
 <li>acoustic sensors, which you&rsquo;ll use to detect, classify and track submarine contacts.</li>
</ul>

Operate sophisticated airborne electronic surveillance equipment to conduct above-and-below surface warfare, detect illegal fishing activity and assist in search and rescue missions.
