You may be posted to any Air Force base or Defence establishment within Australia or possibly overseas, although overseas postings are limited.

You will be paid while you study. On completion of your degree, Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you'll earn at least:

In the Air Force you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

You can specialise in cyber-related functions such as the provisioning and protection of telecommunications, satellites and space, information systems, or RF data networks, as well as communications and cyber security capability development, and strive for leadership positions which will allow you shape the ADF’s future.

Civilian Recognition

ADF Senior Engineers will become Members of Engineers Australia, and depending on their qualifications and experience, they will be concurrently chartered in the Leadership and Management College of Engineers Australia as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng). They will also be offered an additional technical Area of Practice depending on their employment history, qualifications and training. Junior Engineers are able to self-fund their accreditation at a discounted application rate and a discounted annual membership rate.

Post Graduate Sponsorships

RAAF Engineers are encouraged to continue their tertiary education part time. Air Force Engineers are eligible for partial or full funding towards post graduate studies either through UNSW or a chosen university. Potential programs include Masters of Business Administration, Space Operations, Cyber Security and many more. Receipt of this funding is not guaranteed and is based upon a variety of factors such as chosen studies, relevance to Air Force work and whether other postgraduate education has already been completed.

In every aspect of the Air Force, you&rsquo;ll see advanced technology, networks, and cyberspace systems. As an Electronics Engineer - Cyber Systems, you&rsquo;ll play a crucial role in ensuring that these network systems are in place to allow the Air Force to function smoothly.
What you&rsquo;ll do
This is a leadership role where you&rsquo;ll manage a team of highly trained technicians. Together, you&rsquo;ll service, maintain, and protect the cyberspace and networking systems that allow Air Force systems to fuse data and share information about the battlespace.
Your day-to-day work is diverse and could include:
<ul>
 <li>Leading skilled technicians at an operational Air Base to maintain and configure Air Force and Defence-wide communications and cyberspace systems for daily missions.</li>
 <li>Working alongside the defence industry to modify, upgrade and ensure the continued effectiveness of our Air Force networks.</li>
 <li>Applying project management skills to acquire and introduce new Air Force aircraft and equipment that suits Australia's needs.</li>
 <li>Securing and protecting Air Force cyberspace systems through application of policy, by investigating technical and cyber security incidents and managing workforce standards such as training and qualifications.</li>
 <li>Ensuring Air Force cyberspace systems are adequately prepared to meet Air Force's needs.</li>
 <li>Preparing for higher command responsibilities through training to broaden your skills.</li>
</ul>
Training and Career progression 
We'll give you the knowledge you need to start your career in electronics engineering. After you complete Initial Military Training most engineers will undertake a Professional Development and Training (PD&amp;T) year during which time you will rotate and explore different roles on an Air Force base every few months. Your Initial Employment Training will also occur during this period. At the completion of this you will be posted to a formal position and continue to rotate around new roles approximately every 2-3 years to gain the depth and breadth of experience required to develop you as a competent engineering leader with increasing levels of responsibility along the way.
As part of your role, you'll also have the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications and experience, such as becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in the Leadership and Management College of Engineers Australia (EA).
You&rsquo;ll end up with a fulfilling career with plenty of potential for growth and opportunity, which could include specialising in a range of cyber-related functions such as telecommunications, satellites and space, information systems, or cyber capability acquisition.

This is not your typical engineering role. In the Air Force, you&rsquo;ll be given a breadth of experience and opportunities to work on things that you couldn&rsquo;t otherwise in the civilian world &mdash; including state-of-the-art defence networks, satellites, the space domain, and communications.
