Eligibility Checklist

Receive nationally recognised trade training
Join the ADF and learn a trade. You&rsquo;ll receive all the training you need, be paid while you train and can earn industry-recognised qualifications. 
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those seeking nationally recognised trade training to undertake hands-on tasks.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

Your salary once trained

In the Air Force you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

General Entry: Technical

Following completion of the Army Technical and Trade Vehicle Technician Course and completion of your Competency Logbook (Journal), you&rsquo;ll be issued the following qualifications:
<ul>
 <li>Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Heavy Vehicle Road Transport)
 </li>
 <li>Certificate II in Automotive Mechanical Air Conditioning
 </li>
 <li>Licence to Perform Dogging.
 </li>
</ul>
As you progress through your career, there may be opportunities to undertake additional technical training which is usually equipment specific.

As a Motor Mechanic, you&rsquo;ll play a crucial role supporting the Air Force&rsquo;s operational effectiveness and capability. Working on a wide range of equipment, from Air Force fire vehicles to aircraft arrestor systems that bring fast jets to a safe stop on runways, you&rsquo;ll perform a range of mechanical tasks in situations you won&rsquo;t encounter in civilian life.

You&rsquo;ll be responsible for the maintenance, modification and repair of a wide range of motor vehicles, ground aviation systems and fuel installations. You'll exercise your critical thinking and sound judgement while carrying out your duties in the workshop or on the runway. It's a rewarding role that offers opportunities for travel, including deployments overseas.

Use your expertise and skills to keep the Air Force’s heavy vehicles, ground support equipment and fuel operations in peak operating condition in this varied and rewarding role.
