Eligibility Checklist

Receive nationally recognised trade training
Join the ADF and learn a trade. You&rsquo;ll receive all the training you need, be paid while you train and can earn industry-recognised qualifications. 
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those seeking nationally recognised trade training to undertake hands-on tasks.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Army you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

General Entry: Technical

Course: On-the-Job Training 
Duration: 6 months 
Location: Army Aviation Training Centre, Oakey, Qld 
While undertaking your on-the-job training, you&rsquo;ll complete a 9-week aircraft type course and spend approximately 12 weeks training in an operational unit. The aircraft type you&rsquo;ll learn on will depend on the Army&rsquo;s needs.

As an Avionics Technician, you&rsquo;ll be a multi-skilled soldier responsible for the maintenance, operation and inspecting of Army aircraft technology, including communication, navigation, radar, electrical, electronics, instrument systems and ground equipment.

Working from an established workshop, on the tarmac or in the field environment, you&rsquo;ll maintain a range of avionics equipment on aircraft such as the Eurocopter EC665 Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter, the Boeing CH47 Chinook, and the Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk.
You&rsquo;ll specialise in the inspection, modification, repair, testing and maintenance of Army aircraft, engines, armament and safety and ancillary equipment.

Help keep the Army's formidable fleet of helicopters airborne and operational, maintaining and repairing their communication, navigation, instrument and safety systems.
