Earn a fully funded degree
Originating from a unique partnership between the ADF and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), ADFA offers world-class education plus cutting-edge military and leadership training at our Canberra campus. In addition to being expertly trained in the art of leadership and management, you'll undertake a degree in Arts, Business, Science, Engineering or Computing.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those wanting a fully funded world-class degree from the University of New South Wales (UNSW). You&rsquo;ll earn a salary while you study and graduate HELP-debt-free.

Officer Entry: Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA)

You'll be paid while you study. On completion of your degree, Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you'll earn at least:

In the Army you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

Officer Entry: ADFA

Throughout your military career, you’ll undertake formal courses of both a military and technical nature to be eligible for promotion and broaden your technical competence. 

The following are examples of further professional development: 
<ul>
<li>Master of Project Management (Army Technical Staff Officers Course - ATSOC) conducted at the ADFA in Canberra. Positions are for a senior Captain/Major each year. </li>
<li>Defence Aided Study Scheme (DASS) for the opportunity to choose your own university postgraduate opportunities. </li>
<li>Master’s programs run by ADFA through <a href="https://www.unsw.adfa.edu.au/study/postgraduate-coursework/programs" target="_blank">UNSW</a> are available to Army engineers. </li>
</ul>

As a Civil Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to work on truly unique infrastructure and construction challenges. Whether you’re project managing the construction of airfields, buildings and roads, constructing field defences and obstacles, or contributing to humanitarian missions, your efforts will keep the ADF mobile and operational, in Australia and overseas.

You’ll be responsible for the full range of regimental, engineering specific, and staff duties where your skills can be used to enhance Army capabilities. You’ll develop valuable leadership skills and field engineering expertise, giving you operational context of the Army’s equipment. This will provide you with the grounding to make informed civil engineering decisions later in your career.
