Initial postings are usually to large Combat Service Support Battalions (CSSB) located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin and Townsville. Subsequent postings can be to various locations and units throughout Australia.

You will be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Army you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

As a Fitter Armament- you will apply your skills in the workshop, out in the field on domestic exercises, deployments and humanitarian operations. Fitter Armourers serve in the Corps of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME).

You will inspect, repair, modify and recondition a wide range of military weapon systems and equipment including pistols, semi-automatic and fully automatic weapons, grenade launchers and anti-armour weapons. You will also use welding and machining skills, inspect and repair small engines, miscellaneous equipment and pressurised systems such as fuel delivery equipment.

You&rsquo;ll have the opportunity to grow your technical knowledge through a range of specialist courses covering equipment that includes:
<ul>
<li>Special Forces weapons</li>
<li>Marine and diving equipment</li>
<li>Army Watercraft</li>
<li>Weapon systems of the Abrams Tank and other Armoured Fighting Vehicles</li>
<li>Artillery</li>
<li>Weapon systems mounted to Army helicopters such as the Dillon Minigun.</li>
</ul>
As a Fitter Armament, you will:
<ul>
<li>diagnose, maintain and repair the Army's fleet of weapons that includes: pistols, rifles, shotguns, machine guns and grenade launchers.</li>
<li>diagnose, maintain and repair complex weapon systems, workshop equipment, miscellaneous equipment and perform general engineering tasks.</li>
<li>work with specialist teams on advanced armoured vehicle armament systems and artillery platforms.</li>
<li>perform safety and technical inspections on weapon systems and specialist equipment.</li>
<li>general soldiering duties, such as manning defensive positions, patrolling, traffic control, camouflaging of vehicles and field equipment, and navigation.</li></ul>
