The Australian Regular Army (ARA) elements of the RAINF are organised into seven battalions of the Royal Australian Regiment (RAR). These are:
<ul>
 <li>1 RAR, 2 RAR and 3 RAR, located in Townsville QLD</li>
 <li>5 RAR, located in Darwin NT</li>
 <li>6 RAR and 8/9 RAR, located in Brisbane QLD</li>
 <li>7 RAR, located in Adelaide SA</li>
</ul>
RAINF officers can also serve in instructional postings throughout Australia and overseas. Additionally there are 13 Army Reserve (ARes) Infantry Battalions located in all states and territories except the Northern Territory.
The Infantry Corps also includes Regional Force Surveillance Units (RFSU) and Special Forces (SF).
The RFSU operate in the north of Australia, with their Headquarters and out stations spread from Karratha in the Pilbara Region of WA, through the top end of the NT and across to Cairns and the Cape York Peninsula.

You will be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Army you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

RAInf officers have ample opportunity to serve overseas, either on operations, exchange or in training appointments.Recent overseas deployments for infantry battalion groups have included Timor Leste, Afghanistan, Iraq and Solomon Islands. A large number of captains and majors are on exchange and training appointments in almost all parts of the world at any time. Furthermore, an infantry company, on rotation, is also deployed to Butterworth, Malaysia and other sub-unit exchanges occur regularly.

You will be paid while you study. On completion of your degree, Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you'll earn at least:

<div class="p">Army General Service Officers are allocated to specific roles shortly before graduation from the Royal Military College - Duntroon. The allocation of roles is based on performance during training.</div>
The role of the Infantry is to seek out and close with the enemy, to kill or capture them, to seize and hold ground, repel attack, by day or by night, regardless of season weather or terrain. As this role implies, Infantry is the major combat element of the Army. This role demands high standards of mental and physical toughness, esprit de corps, battle craft and determination from soldiers, and doubly so from officers who are expected to lead from the front.
Graduates who are allotted to the Royal Australian Infantry (RAInf) Corps on graduation from Royal Military College (RMC) can expect to spend three or four years as a lieutenant with at least the first posting in an infantry battalion. During this posting, an officer can expect to be a rifle platoon commander and possibly a specialist platoon commander. Selected officers may spend their third year in one of the following appointments:
<ul>
 <li>Command of a Battalion's specialist Platoon, such as heavy weapons, reconnaissance/ sniper, mortars, small craft or signals</li>
 <li>Platoon commander at the School of Infantry (Singleton) or the 1st Recruit Training Battalion (Kapooka) </li>
 <li>Liaison officer on a brigade headquarters</li>
</ul>
