Gap Year Infantry Soldiers will conduct their recruit course at Kapooka, NSW before moving to a second training location at the School of Infantry, Singleton, NSW.

Upon completion of your Initial Employment Training (IET), your first posting as an Infantry Soldier will likely be to one of the large Combat Battalions.

Primary posting locations include Townsville, Brisbane, Adelaide and Darwin.

You will be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Army you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

Immerse yourself in this action-packed experience while on an Infantry Soldier Gap Year and gain skills for life in a hands-on role full of adventure. 
From the moment you start your experience, you&rsquo;ll be trained as part of a highly skilled team to handle any situation. You will challenge yourself and learn to operate effectively in a range of different environments as you contribute to the protection of Australia. You will become a highly skilled soldier, trained to fight enemies at close quarters in all phases of warfare, using high-tech equipment and weaponry.
You will be supported throughout your training by professional and dedicated Army personnel who will provide the guidance necessary for you to get the most out of this experience.
Your training will begin at Kapooka in Wagga Wagga, NSW, where you&rsquo;ll complete 9 weeks of recruit training. Training will involve physical training, weapon handling and shooting, first aid, drill and field craft. It&rsquo;s challenging, but it will prepare you for anything.
Once you complete your Initial Military Training, you&rsquo;ll grow your skills and expertise at the School of Infantry, Singleton, NSW. You will learn infantry tactics, weapons and equipment to engage in close quarters battle in the field and urban environment. You&rsquo;ll also learn how to shoot, move and communicate all at once in a highly skilled team within a combat environment.
Once you&rsquo;ve finished your Initial Employment Training, you&rsquo;ll be assigned to an Army unit and your career as a soldier will begin. Here you&rsquo;ll join an experienced team and have opportunities to put your new skills to the test. All while making friends and gaining experience that will last you a lifetime. 
So, what happens next? After finishing your Gap Year program, you can choose to continue your career in the Army or use the skills and experiences to gain an edge in future careers. There&rsquo;s no obligation to serve beyond the one-year program period.
