Eligibility Checklist

Earn a fully funded degree
Originating from a unique partnership between the ADF and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), ADFA offers world-class education plus cutting-edge military and leadership training at our Canberra campus. In addition to being expertly trained in the art of leadership and management, you'll undertake a degree in Arts, Business, Science, Engineering or Computing.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those wanting a fully funded world-class degree from the University of New South Wales (UNSW). You&rsquo;ll earn a salary while you study and graduate HELP-debt-free.

Officer Entry: Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA)

You'll be paid while you study. On completion of your degree, Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you'll earn at least:

In the Army you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

Officer Entry: ADFA

Those who complete Engineering as their degree at ADFA will conduct a further 12 months back at ADFA to complete their studies prior to their first posting and attending LOBC.

Over the course of your military career, you&rsquo;ll undertake formal military and technical courses to be eligible for promotion and broaden your technical competence.
As an engineering graduate, you may be selected for overseas training in areas ranging from reliability and maintainability techniques to a master's degree.
The following professional development opportunities are available:
<ul>
 <li>Master of Project Management (Army Technical Staff Officers Course - ATSOC) conducted at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in Canberra. Each year, there are places for a senior Captain/Major.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
 <li>Master of Science in Guided Weaponry or Electronic Systems Engineering or Simulation conducted at the Royal Military College Schrivenham, UK. Each year, there are places for 2 Captains/Majors.</li>
</ul>

Become an officer with your existing degree
If you have a recognised degree in a field such as Medicine, Law, Dentistry, Nursing, Engineering, Business or IT, you can apply for an officer role through Graduate Entry. Whether you're a recent graduate or in a career, you&rsquo;ll receive further training and postgraduate study opportunities in the ADF.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those who already have a recognised degree and want to receive further training and postgraduate study opportunities. You&rsquo;ll pursue your profession as an officer and add an exciting new dimension to your work.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

Officer Entry: Graduate

Have your current studies sponsored
As an undergraduate studying for a role-relevant degree at an accredited university of your choice, you can join the ADF via Defence University Sponsorship (DUS). This means you&rsquo;ll have your fees paid for, earn a salary while you complete your degree, and walk straight into a great ADF role following graduation.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those already studying a relevant degree (or in some cases, those who have accepted an offer) at an Australian university. You&rsquo;ll earn a salary while you study and have the remainder of your university fees paid in return for a commitment to an officer role.

Officer Entry: Undergraduate

Over the course of your military career, you&rsquo;ll undertake formal military and technical courses to be eligible for promotion and broaden your technical competence.
As an engineering graduate, you may be selected for overseas training in areas ranging from reliability and maintainability techniques to a master's&nbsp;degree. 
The following professional development opportunities are available:

As a Mechatronic and Electrical Engineer, you&rsquo;ll be an integral part of a team of specialists responsible for the procurement, maintenance, management and modification of the Army&rsquo;s modern electronic equipment.

Following training, you&rsquo;ll likely be employed as a Troop Commander in a workshop. You&rsquo;ll learn about Army&rsquo;s trades, equipment, maintenance systems and administration. You&rsquo;re likely to perform a range of other roles over the course of your career. For example, you could be employed as Workshop Commander within a Signals Unit providing command and leadership to the soldiers who maintain satellite communication systems, or as an Operations Officer within a Field Workshop, planning the maintenance of a Brigade&rsquo;s mission-essential equipment. You could even work as part of a team defining the technical specifications of the next generation of Army&rsquo;s night vision materiel as an Engineering Officer. In addition to making technical engineering decisions, you&rsquo;ll also be exposed to the full range of general service roles such as Staff Officer, Logistics Planner and Instructor.

Manage a team of skilled technicians tasked with maintaining the electrical, communication and power generation systems of state-of-the-art military equipment.
