Aircrew spend the majority of their careers at HMAS Albatross in Nowra, NSW. However, you may be posted to any Navy ship where helicopters are embarked or to any shore posting around Australia based on service need.

You will be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Navy you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

General Entry: Non-Technical

<div class="p">Course: Aviation Medicine 
Duration: 1 Week 
Location: Institute of Aviation Medicine at RAAF Base Edinburgh, SA</div>
You will learn to understand and how manage the physiological challenges of flight such as G-forces and hypoxia.
<div class="p">Course: Combat Survival Training 
Duration: 2 Weeks 
Location: Combat Survival Training School at RAAF Base Townsville</div>
You will learn how to survive in arduous and/or hostile environments during domestic and combat downed aircraft scenarios. SERE &ndash; Survive, Evade, Resist, Escape. 
<div class="p">Course: Helicopter Underwater Escape Training 
Duration: 1 Day 
Location: HMAS Albatross</div>
In a state-of-the-art facility, you will learn how to safely egress a submerged helicopter both with and without emergency breathing devices as well as other sea survival techniques.
<div class="p">Sub Specialist Option 
Follow-on training may be available to Navy Aircrew:</div>
<div class="p">Qualified Aircrewman Instructor: Teach others the skills that you have learnt on your way to become Navy Aircrew.</div>

This is a fast-paced role that will see you take on a variety of responsibilities in an exciting and challenging work environment.
As an Aircrew (known in the Navy as Aircrewman), it will be your job to operate and manage the sensors, weaponry and radar onboard a Navy helicopter. You'll be a key part of the action contributing to the success of a range of missions including search and rescue, casualty evacuation and combat operations.
This is a role where every day is different. One day you might be operating a weapon out of a moving helicopter, the next you could be leaping into the ocean from a helicopter to rescue civilians or using sensors to locate submarines. You won't be thrown into the deep end, you'll gain all the skills you need with paid training to be ready for whatever this rewarding role throws at you.
Your duties may include:

 <li>Provide fire support/cover for the aircraft</li>
 <li>Sensor operations</li>
 <li>Radar and surveillance operations</li>
 <li>Search and rescue</li>
 <li>Anti-submarine and surface warfare</li>
 <li>Supporting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations</li>
 <li>Airborne mine countermeasures</li>
 <li>Utility operations including vertical replenishment and casualty evacuation</li>
</ul>
