Join without qualifications
There are many excellent career options in the ADF that generally don&rsquo;t require experience or qualifications. You&rsquo;ll receive all the training you need and be paid while you train.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those seeking general roles and career opportunities.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Navy you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

General Entry: Non-technical

Course: Ships Medical Emergency Team Course 
Duration: 10 days 
Location: HMAS Stirling or HMAS Penguin 

Gain the necessary skills to competently assist Ship's Medical Staff in providing emergency medical care. 

This course includes: 
<ul>
<li>patient assessment, determine injuries and treatment priorities </li>
<li>ventilating a patient </li>
<li>First Aid </li>
<li>performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) </li>
<li>managing a patient with chemical, radiation or atmospheric contaminated related injuries </li>
<li>preparing Battle Dressing Station and Emergency Operating Station to receive patients </li>
<li>preparing medications for administration as directed by medical staff </li>
<li>prepare an Intravenous Therapy Line for infusion and maintain drip flow rate. </li>
</ul>

Course: ADF Catering Supervisor’s Course 
Duration: 15 days 
Location: ADF School of Catering (ADFSC), HMAS Cerberus, Vic 

For promotion to Leading Seaman Chef, this course provides both practical and theoretical instruction in all aspects of cookery and kitchen supervision. 

Also, you’ll further develop integrated catering skills applicable to the Navy, Army and Air Force to enable you to provide effective service in both the sea and land domains. 

Topics include: 
<ul>
<li>supervising catering operations </li>
<li>providing quality customer service </li>
<li>leading and managing people </li>
<li>rostering staff </li>
<li>monitoring staff performance </li>
<li>implementing a food safety program </li>
<li>implementing and monitoring Workplace Health Safety and security practices </li>
<li>the control and order of stock </li>
<li>provisions management and accounting </li>
<li>supervise catering trade training </li>
<li>prepare, deploy and redeploy a Land Domain Catering Detachment </li>
<li>supervise field kitchen operations and maintenance. </li>

Course: Maritime Catering Manager Course   
Duration: 15 days 
Location: ADF School of Catering (ADFSC), HMAS Cerberus, Vic 

For promotion to Petty Officer Chef, this course provides you with the appropriate skills to manage a catering department in the maritime environment. 

Topics include: 
<ul>
<li>providing a safe working environment </li>
<li>participating, initiating, leading and reporting on quality audits </li>
<li>managing mess arrangements </li>
<li>developing and implementing a food safety program </li>
<li>developing and implementing operational plans </li>
<li>managing work operations </li>
<li>managing and overseeing menu planning and production </li>
<li>managing physical assets </li>
<li>managing and overseeing financial operations </li>
<li>managing, developing and overseeing storing plans </li>
<li>providing quality customer service </li>
<li>managing quarantine and waste </li>
<li>managing and overseeing food safety. </li>
</ul>

As a Navy Chef, you’ll work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, on-board ships and at Navy bases ashore.

You’ll work in a team of like-minded individuals to produce meals for your ship’s crew. No 2 days are the same as you plan, prepare and cook meals utilising a range of different cooking styles. You’ll have access to a wide variety of ingredients from kitchen staples to gourmet produce to create meals that fuel the Navy and have a positive influence on the morale of your crew. 

You’ll have opportunities to serve on-board all of the Navy’s ships, cooking with up-to-date equipment, for different crew sizes, but one thing is assured, you’ll be doing this within a catering team of professional Navy Chefs.
