On completion of your training, you will be mainly based at HMAS Albatross, Nowra. Throughout your career you will also conduct postings to sea.
Opportunities may also exist for short periods (4-6 months) of overseas operational service.

You will be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Navy you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

Command the skies in a skilled role that combines aviation and technology to support Navy missions and operations. 
Whether you have recently finished school, currently studying, already in the workforce or you have no experience at all, you'll be paid from day one. You'll gain all the skills needed with extensive on-the-job training.
As a Drone Pilot Mission Commander (known in the Navy as Remote Pilot Warfare Officer), you&rsquo;ll control drones designed to enhance the ship's situational awareness. You will be detecting and locating surface contacts, gathering information and coordinating with the team to achieve missions. 
You&rsquo;ll operate a variety of Remote Piloted Vehicles at sea and ashore. 
Your duties include, but aren&rsquo;t limited to: 
<ul>
 <li>Launching, operating, flying and landing drones</li>
 <li>Gathering intelligence about ship surroundings</li>
 <li>Patrolling, investigating and surveillance</li>
 <li>Search and rescue</li>
 <li>Detecting and interpreting aerial photographs and information from drone sensors and cameras</li>
 <li>Mission and flight planning</li>
 <li>Pre-flight procedures and inspections</li>
 <li>Identifying weather conditions</li>
 <li>Operating drones within versatile environments and weather</li>
 <li>Responding to drone faults</li>
 <li>Conducting post-flight reviews, inspections and maintenance</li>
</ul>
As an officer, you'll learn additional skills and duties to become highly trained and efficient in supporting the security and safety of the ship and personnel onboard. This involves providing leadership, management, administration and career advice to sailors and junior officers within your division.
