Join without qualifications
There are many excellent career options in the ADF that generally don&rsquo;t require experience or qualifications. You&rsquo;ll receive all the training you need and be paid while you train.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Navy you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

As a Hospitality Services Operator Nuclear Submariner, you’ll help write a new chapter in Navy history, making a meaningful contribution to the deployment of Australia’s first conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines. You’ll operate and manage Navy messes and dining facilities, providing hospitality and meal services to entire Navy bases and submarines.

You’ll play an important role keeping your team fuelled and morale high, planning, preparing, cooking and serving meals onboard submarines and ashore. Primarily you’ll work in the kitchen/dining area, or as it is known in the Navy, the galley, which is the heart of every ship. This is where the crew gathers to eat, socialise and relax. As a Hospitality Services Operator Nuclear Submariner, you’re not just a chef, you’ll also provide quality hospitality services to the submarine's crew, serve VIPs, manage canteens, and host events and functions.

Your work will require the highest standards of operational nuclear safety and security. To enable you to perform your duties, you’ll undergo a comprehensive induction into the Nuclear Mindset. Drawing on the established nuclear cultures in the United Kingdom and the United States, Navy and the Australian Submariner Agency (ASA) have developed the Nuclear Mindset – a set of 10 principles to guide our nuclear workforce. Keeping your crew, our people, the public and the environment safe and secure is paramount. By adopting the Nuclear Mindset, you’ll help Navy achieve those goals.

Work in the ‘heart of the submarine’ where you’ll maintain crew morale, working as an essential part of missions, both onboard the Virginia Class submarine and ashore.
