All Sailors will serve in fleet units and shore establishments on a rotational basis.

You will be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Navy you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

General Entry: Non-Technical

Once a sailor has consolidated their operator skills training, they will undertake specialisation training to stream as an Intelligence Analyst – Linguist which is a combination of language training in the Defence Force School of Languages in Laverton, Vic, and additional training conducted at the Defence Force School of Signals in Cabarlah, QLD.

Enter the world of classified intelligence using state-of-the-art equipment to intercept and analyse foreign language material.
Whether you have recently finished school, currently studying, already in the workforce or you have no experience at all, you'll be paid from day one. You'll gain all the skills needed with extensive on-the-job training and be taught another language.
As an Intelligence Analyst &ndash; Linguist (known in the Navy as Cryptologic Linguist), you&rsquo;ll use problem solving skills to support intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance activities, at sea and ashore. Your responsibilities include handling, distributing, and safeguarding classified information and foreign language material from incoming radio transmissions.
Your duties include, but aren&rsquo;t limited to: 
<ul>
 <li>Learning a language other than English</li>
 <li>Analysing radio waves, communications, terminology and patterns</li>
 <li>Interpreting and analysing foreign language materials</li>
 <li>Operating recording and processing equipment</li>
 <li>Manipulating software </li>
 <li>Analytical and methodical problem-solving</li>
 <li>Working with classified information</li>
 <li>Information security procedures and safe handling of information. </li>
</ul>
As a sailor, you&rsquo;ll learn additional skills and duties to become highly trained and efficient in supporting the whole ship. This may include ship security, firefighting team, flood repair, flight deck duties, replenishment at sea, ammunitioning, first aid or line handling.
