Initial and employment training occurs at HMAS Creswell, Australian Defence Force Academy, HMAS Watson and various HMA Ships. 
Submariner training and the majority of a submariners’ career is based out of HMAS Stirling, WA. There are a number of other shore positions available at various locations around Australia and a limited number of international positions.
 International training occurs for members selected to undertake nuclear powered submariner training.

You will be paid while you study. On completion of your degree, Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you'll earn at least:

In the Navy you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

You&rsquo;ll be responsible for the control, navigation, systems and safety of Navy Submarines at sea and in harbour.
Whether you have recently finished school, currently studying, already in the workforce or you have no experience at all, you'll be paid from day one. You'll gain all the skills and qualifications needed with extensive theoretical, practical and on-the-job training.
As a Maritime Warfare Officer Submariner (MWOSM), you&rsquo;re a vital member of the team, you&rsquo;ll report to your Command Team and directly to your Commanding Officer. You&rsquo;re responsible for the safety of the submarine and will be a leader to all personnel onboard.
Your day-to-day responsibilities could include leading a team of sailors, directing the operations of personnel, safely navigating the submarine and overseeing the use of weapons systems.
Your duties include, but aren&rsquo;t limited to:
<ul>
 <li>	Maintaining the safety of the submarine and personnel</li>
 <li>	Managing and leading the crew, their activities and wellbeing</li>
 <li>	Maintaining the navigation of the submarine</li>
 <li>	Contributing to submarine operations, warfare activities and tactics</li>
 <li>	Control of the vessel through surfaced, dived and harbour watchkeeping </li>
 <li>	Overseeing sensors, combat and weapon systems</li>
</ul>
Your training will equip you with all the experience you need to develop as a leader and have a broad understanding of everything that happens onboard a submarine.
There are also a wide variety of shore-based positions for periods when you are not posted to a submarine, including instructing (officer, mariner and submariner positions), navy liaison positions (internationally based) operational planning, project management, career management and general managerial roles. Once trained, you&rsquo;ll usually progress to a new position every 18-24 months. 
As an officer, you'll learn additional skills and duties to become highly trained and efficient in supporting the security and safety of the submarine and personnel onboard. This involves providing leadership, management, administration and career advice to sailors and junior officers within your division.
