All Sailors will serve in fleet units and shore establishments on a rotational basis.

You will be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Navy you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

General Entry: Non-Technical

Intermediate Career Course 
Prior to promotion to Leading Seaman rank, sailors are required to undergo another level of training to prepare them for the roles and responsibilities of Leading Seaman in Joint Policing, security and Maritime Operations
Advanced Career Course 
Prior to promotion to Petty Officer rank, sailors are required to undergo further training to prepare them for the roles and responsibilities of a Senior Sailor in Joint Policing, security and Maritime Operations.

Provide valuable support in both domestic and international environments. 
Whether you have recently finished school, currently studying, already in the workforce or you have no experience at all, you'll be paid from day one. You'll gain all the skills needed with extensive on-the-job training.
As a Military Police sailor (known in the Navy as Naval Police Coxswain), you&rsquo;ll be a critical component of the Military Justice System. Your role will be to maintain military effectiveness, protect the reputation of the Australian Defence Force and ensure that discipline and order is upheld at sea and ashore. You will also work in a variety of environments, including joint military police units, Navy shore establishments and onboard ships. As is the nature of policing and military service, many roles involve working outside of a normal working day.
Your role involves three primary functions, policing, security and emergency management. 

Your duties include, but aren&rsquo;t limited to:
<ul>
 <li>General Duties policing and law enforcement</li>
 <li>Crime scene preservation and management</li>
 <li>Conduct investigations, including interviews and evidence</li>
 <li>Anti-piracy, including the seizure of illicit drugs or weapons</li>
 <li>Liaising with domestic and foreign police and authorities</li>
 <li>Conduct prisoner and detainee handling</li>
 <li>Security risk analysis and management</li>
 <li>Emergency Management and Coordination</li>
 <li>Coordinate, supervise and conduct substance and alcohol testing</li>
 </ul>
As a Member of the ADF Military Police, you will be trained in a range of police specific operational safety techniques, service pistol and non-lethal use of force. Throughout your career you will be required to maintain currency in those operational safety techniques.
As a sailor, you&rsquo;ll learn additional skills and duties to become highly trained and efficient in supporting the whole ship. This may include ship security, firefighting team, flood repair, flight deck duties, ammunitioning, first aid or line handling.
