All Sailors will serve in fleet units and shore establishments on a rotational basis.

You will be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Navy you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

General Entry: Non-Technical

The Navy is currently investing significantly in the future of Mine Warfare, as such after your initial posting to a MHC, you’ll receive specialised training from both Navy and Industry partners, such as the Australian Maritime College in the operation of emerging Robotic and Autonomous Systems. Currently these systems include Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, Unmanned Surface Vessels and the Expendable Mine Neutralisation System. 
When you are identified for further career advancement and promotion, you’ll be provided with intermediate and advanced level training to prepare you for supervisor and manager roles.

<div class="p">The Mine Warfare Operator (known in the Navy as Combat Systems Operator - Mine Warfare) specialises in working with sophisticated sensors to help defend Australia's shipping routes and trade interests. You'll be trained to operate cutting edge sensor technology onboard the Navy's Mine Hunter Coastal ships, some of the most advanced ships in the world, or as a member of the Mine Warfare Deployable Systems Team, operating the latest Robotic and Autonomous Systems (RAS).</div>
You'll work as part of a tight-knit team using minehunting and minesweeping techniques to identify, prevent or remove minefields at sea-putting you at the heart of the action. This is a role where you can really make a difference, travelling around the world to hunt down and remove the threat of mines.
Your career starts out at sea on one of the Navy's Mine Hunter Coastal ships. All Operators undergo core skills training and can then specialise in Navigator's Yeoman, Ship Bourne Lifesaving and Survival Equipment Maintainer or as an Operations Room Yeoman.
Mine Warfare Operators are involved in the operation of a variety of equipment and sensors, including Combat Data Systems, Mine Hunting Sonars, Mine Disposal Vehicles, Surface Radars and increasingly emerging RAS such as Autonomous Underwater Vehicles and Uncrewed Surface Vessels.
Additionally, you'll be required to gain skills in the use of small arm weapon systems and aspects of seamanship, including small boat handling and operations, anchor and rope work, berthing, towing and helmsmanship. Ancillary duties also include border and force protection when necessary.
