Your initial military training will take place in Australia and then you will move to the United States of America to complete employment training. Sea postings may be on submarines operating out of Western Australia, Hawaii, Groton, Guam and San Diego, and shore postings will be in both Australia and the United States of America.

You will be paid while you study. On completion of your degree, Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you'll earn at least:

In the Navy you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

Be a part of history, working with conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines. This game-changing capability provides superior stealth, speed and range that meet Australia’s long-term defence needs.

As a Nuclear Submarine Officer, you will oversee day-to-day operations including everything from communications and navigation to armament, and tactical deployment of the submarine. Your typical day could see you in charge of any of the following:

<li> Nuclear reactor and nuclear propulsion system operations</li>
<li> Onboard weapons systems management</li>
<li> Atmosphere control and fire control systems</li>
<li> Driving the vessel and charting its position</li>
<li> Communications and intelligence equipment operation</li>
</ul>
Your training will first equip you with technical expertise in nuclear propulsion, the platform, and its equipment. You will then move into your submarine qualification and oversee day-to-day operations, and you could one day lead the entire crew as Commanding Officer.

You will be responsible maintaining the highest standards of operational nuclear safety and security. Your nuclear mindset will be the foundation for the Australian conventionally-armed nuclear-powered submarine enterprise to keep your crew, our people, the public, and the environment safe and secure.
