All Sailors will serve in fleet units and shore establishments on a rotational basis.

You will be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Navy you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications; and your pay increases as you progress through training. In addition to your salary you'll receive a variety of allowances, extra pay for relevant qualifications – plus 16.4% superannuation, a far higher rate than you're likely to find in the civilian world.

Be the eyes beyond the horizon building the strategic and tactical picture to recommend the best course of action for the ship. 
Whether you have recently finished school, currently studying, already in the workforce or you have no experience at all, you'll be paid from day one. You'll gain all the skills needed with extensive on-the-job training.
As a Weapons and Sensors Operator (known in the Navy as Combat Systems Operator), you&rsquo;ll work in the operation room using combat data systems, radars and sensors to detect, track and identify air, surface, and sub-surface threats. The information you collect will enable you to provide data-driven recommendations to assist your team in making tactical decisions and avoiding potential threats. 
You will either specialise in underwater or above water operations. Underwater operations comprise of anti-submarine warfare, meaning you will use ships, aircraft or submariners to detect, identify and track submarines. For above water operations, you will use sensors and combat data systems to analyse air warfare threats and provide recommendations. 
Your duties include, but aren&rsquo;t limited to:

 <li>Using combat data systems, radars, identification sensors and information networks</li>
 <li>Collecting, correlating and sharing sophisticated sensor information</li>
 <li>Giving daily briefings to Command and stakeholders</li>
 <li>Providing data-driven recommendations</li>
 <li>Boarding party</li>
 <li>Search and rescue</li>
 <li>Building the tactical and strategic picture </li>
</ul>
As a sailor, you&rsquo;ll learn additional skills and duties to become highly trained and efficient in supporting the whole ship. This may include ship security, firefighting team, flood repair, flight deck duties, replenishment at sea, ceremonial duties, ammunitioning, first aid or line handling.
