If you're a driven and ambitious individual, the ADF will teach you to lead teams, mentor others and manage complex scenarios as an officer. As long as you&rsquo;re a school leaver who has passed Year 12, you can join, learn to lead and mentor others.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Year 12 graduates or qualified professionals.

You'll be paid to train and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you’ll earn a tax-free daily rate of at least:

As a part-time Armoured Officer, you’ll lead a team of soldiers who’ll operate high-tech weapon systems with skill and speed, while also operating and commanding some of the most advanced protected vehicles within the Army. You’ll conduct independent operations for extended periods in remote areas and under harsh conditions. Your role as a part-time Armoured Officer will be to lead and command a Light Cavalry Troop on operations both domestically and overseas. 

This meaningful role is part of the <a href="/careers/joining/pathways?page-tab=army ">Army Officer – Command career pathway</a>, where you’ll learn the fundamentals of being a leader to a team of soldiers, including mentorship, influence, problem solving, decision making and much more. No leadership experience is required, and you’ll be allocated to your specific role before you graduate from training.

This is an Army Officer – Command Pathway role. This means you'll enter the Army to be trained as a General Service Officer. You’ll receive world-class training that will build you from the ground up to command, lead and manage across a broad spectrum of environments within the Army and within a specialisation. 

The area of your specialisation will depend on your preference, performance and position availability. Within your first posting out of training, you’ll apply these skills and likely lead a team of highly trained soldiers. As you progress in your career, you’ll be exposed to development opportunities across a range of postings to prepare you for your next leadership roles.

Army Officer – Command career pathways 

As an armoured officer, you’ll command, lead and manage troops in a part time armoured unit. These are Light Cavalry Regiments, Army Reserve units that can operate both in a mounted or dismounted and are equipped with the Hawkei Protected Mobility Vehicle – Light (PMV-L), and in some instances the Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle - M (PMV-M) or the G-Wagon Surveillance and Reconnaissance Variant (SRV). The role of these units is to execute cavalry tactics such as security, reconnaissance, surveillance, stability and enabling activities. 

You’ll also be expected to execute limited offensive and defensive actions and may even be called upon to participate in real world relief and security operations both domestically and overseas.
