There are Army Reserve depots located all around Australia, and this role may be available near you even if not listed in the locations below. With this being a critical role within the Defence Force, it&rsquo;s possible that positions will be created outside of the listed locations. This will be reviewed and determined on a case by case basis.

You will be paid to train and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you’ll earn a tax-free daily rate of at least:

If you want to experience adventure while learning new skills, the Army Reserve has an exciting opportunity for you. Decision making skills, critical thinking and attention to detail are all vital when operating advanced artillery equipment in battlefield situations. Put your talents to work, and pick up invaluable skills to take with you in this physically and mentally challenging part-time role.
As a part-time Artillery Light Gunner in the Army Reserve, you&rsquo;ll be a member of the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery (RAA), one of the most tactically and technologically advanced organisations in the Army.
Working in a team environment, you'll significantly influence battlefield operations. Some of the tasks you&rsquo;ll be responsible for include:
<ul>
 <li>Operating 81mm mortars</li>
 <li>Firing a variety of ammunition, including air and ground burst high explosives, illumination, and smoke</li>
 <li>Receiving and relaying battlefield intel</li>
 <li>Taking swift and decisive action</li>
 <li>Preparing and storing ammunition</li>
 <li>Apply battlefield data</li>
 <li>Servicing and maintaining equipment</li>
</ul>
Your training is comprehensive and involves strategic thinking that is transferrable to a multitude of roles in and outside of the Army.
On Reserve parade nights, you can expect to maintain your weapons handling skills, plan ahead for exercises and keep up your soldiering training.
In larger training exercises you'll get to drive cross-country vehicles and use laser, GPS and camouflaging equipment. The skills you'll develop in the Army Reserve are simply unrivalled when compared to any civilian role.
