With this being a critical role within the Defence Force, it’s possible that positions will be created outside of the listed locations. You will be paid to train and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you’ll earn a tax-free daily rate of at least:

As a part-time Combat Engineer, you’ll play a crucial role in assisting our own forces to move whilst also denying mobility to the enemy.

Combat Engineers are soldiers who are specialists in military field engineering. They belong to the Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) Corps and are commonly known as 'Sappers'. They are trained in a broad range of tasks including bridge-building, clearing minefields, demolitions, field defences, and more. 

Some of the tasks you’ll be responsible for include:

<li>Assisting in the construction of temporary roads, bypasses and fords</li>
<li>Conducting demolition tasks</li>
<li>Constructing and operating rafts and ferries</li>
<li>Constructing field defences and wiring obstacles</li>
<li>Erecting bridges using both equipment and non-equipment components</li>
<li>Digging drains and constructing culverts</li>
<li>Constructing and operating field machines</li>
<li>Using and maintaining power tools</li>
<li>Producing potable water using water purification equipment</li>
<li>Operating boats</li>
<li>Concreting construction tasks</li>
</ul>

Following qualification as a Combat Engineer, you may have the opportunity to progress to one of the RAE branch trades such as Plant Operator or Architectural Draughtsman.

On Reserve parade night you can expect to refine your skills, plan ahead for exercises and keep up your soldier training. In larger training exercises, you’ll play a valuable role supporting your team, whether that’s by providing engineering expertise or rebuilding or repairing buildings on humanitarian operations both at home and overseas.
