Receive nationally recognised trade training
Join the ADF and use your existing trade skills in a unique military environment.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those with a nationally recognised trade seeking to undertake hands-on tasks.

You'll be paid to train and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you’ll earn a tax-free daily rate of at least:

Training

Your daily rate while training

Trained

Your daily rate once trained

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax.

General Entry: Technical Reserve

Further trade and equipment courses are available in this role once initial employment training has been completed.

As a part-time Metalsmith, you&rsquo;ll make a difference by putting your trade qualifications to work in support of the community. Play a crucial role in fabricating, repairing and maintaining the equipment the Army uses to defend Australia. Plus, you&rsquo;ll also make mates for life and taste adventure working on Army training exercises.

You&rsquo;ll operate manual metal arc welding machines (MMAW), metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), oxygen-acetylene welding and cutting equipment. You&rsquo;ll also operate and maintain assorted tools and equipment.
When you meet with your unit, you&rsquo;ll refine your metalsmithing skills, plan upcoming exercises and keep up your soldier training. You&rsquo;ll also play an important role supporting your team on exercises.
