Eligibility Checklist

Receive nationally recognised trade training
Join the ADF and learn a trade. You&rsquo;ll receive all the training you need, be paid while you train and can earn industry-recognised qualifications. 
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those seeking nationally recognised trade training to undertake hands-on tasks.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Air Force you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

General Entry: Technical

Training: ADF Carpenter Advanced Trade Training 
Duration: 14-36 months 
Location: School of Military Engineering, Holsworthy, NSW 

This training uses civilian contractors in the Sydney area with possible detachments to Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) units. 

You’ll have up to 36 months to show the skills required to achieve a Certificate III Carpentry. 

Further training opportunities will be offered in Specialist Airfield Engineering courses, covering a variety of subjects to provide skill sets to meet operational requirements. Carpenters will also be required to undertake core training courses required for career progression.

As a Carpenter, you’ll design, construct and maintain buildings to support the Air Force’s operations in the field at temporary and permanent airfields.

Learn on the job or bring your skills and experience to this rewarding role that will take you wherever the Air Force is deployed. You’ll work on a range of construction sites at any of the major Air Force bases or temporary airfields within Australia. As a key member of a team of highly mobile tradespeople, you’ll conduct site planning, excavations, timber and steel constructions and concreting. You’ll also have opportunities to participate in deployed operations with the Army where you’ll assist allied trades.
