Become an officer with your existing degree
If you have a recognised degree in a field such as Medicine, Law, Dentistry, Nursing, Engineering, Business or IT, you can apply for an officer role through Graduate Entry. Whether you're a recent graduate or in a career, you&rsquo;ll receive further training and postgraduate study opportunities in the ADF.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those who already have a recognised degree and want to receive further training and postgraduate study opportunities. You&rsquo;ll pursue your profession as an officer and add an exciting new dimension to your work.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Air Force you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

Officer Entry: Graduate

As part of your ongoing professional development, as a newly graduated dentist you&rsquo;ll initially be classified as Competency Level 1. Following a structured program of training and mentorship by a senior dentist, you&rsquo;ll be reclassified to Competency Level 2 usually around the end of your second year of practice. 
Further development to Competency Level 3 will either be in the form of Fellowship in general stream of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons or in a clinical Graduate Diploma in selected fields based on Air Force needs. Attainment of Competency Level 3 is usually achieved after the fourth or fifth year of clinical practice. 
You may have opportunities to complete further training as an officer and as a manager of people and finance. This training may include sponsored further tertiary study leading to formal qualifications in Management or Population Health. 
Together, these skills will make you an extremely well skilled and versatile dentist, with a variety of work and life experiences which make you the envy of your civilian colleagues.

Have your current studies sponsored
As an undergraduate studying for a role-relevant degree at an accredited university of your choice, you can join the ADF via Defence University Sponsorship (DUS). This means you&rsquo;ll have your fees paid for, earn a salary while you complete your degree, and walk straight into a great ADF role following graduation.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those already studying a relevant degree (or in some cases, those who have accepted an offer) at an Australian university. You&rsquo;ll earn a salary while you study and have the remainder of your university fees paid in return for a commitment to an officer role.

You'll be paid while you study. On completion of your degree, Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you'll earn at least:

As a Dentist in the Air Force, you’ll be responsible for providing dental services to maintain the oral health of ADF members. Your services will ensure members are able to effectively perform their duties without dental conditions causing them distress or reducing their combat effectiveness.

You’ll be responsible for clinical assessment, providing treatment to members and oral health advice in relation to fitness for duty to commanders. You'll also operate and maintain portable dental treatment facilities within Australia and overseas to provide dental services to deployed members of all ages and health status. 

Air Force dental surgeries are equipped to a high standard and dental assistants will give you the necessary support to provide the highest level of oral healthcare.
