Eligibility Checklist

Become an officer with your existing degree
If you have a recognised degree in a field such as Medicine, Law, Dentistry, Nursing, Engineering, Business or IT, you can apply for an officer role through Graduate Entry. Whether you're a recent graduate or in a career, you&rsquo;ll receive further training and postgraduate study opportunities in the ADF.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those who already have a recognised degree and want to receive further training and postgraduate study opportunities. You&rsquo;ll pursue your profession as an officer and add an exciting new dimension to your work.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Air Force you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

Officer Entry: Graduate

Course: Introduction to Occupational Medicine in Defence 
Duration: 2-4 weeks self-paced 
Location: Online
Members of the Australian Defence Organisation (ADO) work in a diverse range of professions and trades, in a wide variety of work environments and are exposed to a broad range of occupational hazards such as hazardous chemicals, radiation, noise, vibration, extremes of heat and cold, ergonomic hazards and other stressors, e.g. fatigue. All have the potential to harm health, immediately or in later life. This course provides an overview of occupational health and occupational medicine in Defence. 

You’ll be offered further employment training to conduct your role as required. This training may include both military and civilian training courses.

Use your degree to move into medicine
Graduates who hold an appropriate undergraduate degree, have successfully completed the Graduate Australian Medical Schools Admission Test (GAMSAT) and have been accepted into an Australian university, can apply to enter the ADF through the Graduate Medical Program. If successful, you&rsquo;ll be sponsored as a medical practitioner, then serve as a Medical Officer. 
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those with a degree looking to move into medicine through the Graduate Medical Program.

You'll be paid while you study. On completion of your degree, Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you'll earn at least:

Have your current studies sponsored
As an undergraduate studying for a role-relevant degree at an accredited university of your choice, you can join the ADF via Defence University Sponsorship (DUS). This means you&rsquo;ll have your fees paid for, earn a salary while you complete your degree, and walk straight into a great ADF role following graduation.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those already studying a relevant degree (or in some cases, those who have accepted an offer) at an Australian university. You&rsquo;ll earn a salary while you study and have the remainder of your university fees paid in return for a commitment to an officer role.

As a Doctor, you’ll provide the highest standards of patient care and lead teams in a variety of unique environments. You’ll be an integral part of the Defence Health System, providing a diverse range of services including the long-term monitoring of Air Force and other ADF members' physical and mental health.

You’ll provide primary healthcare, occupational and aerospace medicine services on Air Force bases to maintain the health and fitness of Air Force and ADF personnel. In doing this, you’ll be enabling our nation's air defence capabilities to remain operational. 

There will be plenty of opportunities to work in the deployed environment. You might apply your specialist skills in aerospace medicine to the Air Force’s aeromedical evacuation system, support deployed members during operations and exercises, or support civilian populations in humanitarian and disaster response. You’ll also have the opportunity to work alongside Navy and Army members.

Be a doctor with a difference, providing primary health care, occupational and aerospace medicine services across a variety of diverse settings within Australia and abroad.
