Eligibility Checklist

Become an officer with your existing degree
If you have a recognised degree in a field such as Medicine, Law, Dentistry, Nursing, Engineering, Business or IT, you can apply for an officer role through Graduate Entry. Whether you're a recent graduate or in a career, you&rsquo;ll receive further training and postgraduate study opportunities in the ADF.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those who already have a recognised degree and want to receive further training and postgraduate study opportunities. You&rsquo;ll pursue your profession as an officer and add an exciting new dimension to your work.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

Trained

Your salary once trained

In the Air Force you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

Officer Entry: Graduate

You’ll need to undertake further professional development courses during the first few years as a Nurse, such as:

Course: ADF Extended Practice Nursing (ADFEPN) Course – Phase 1 and Phase 2 
Duration: 15 days each phase 
Location: ADF School of Health (ADFSH), Latchford Barracks, Bonegilla, Vic

Phase 1
This course will prepare you for employment in the ADF and provide you with training in:
<ul>
<li>ECG interpretation</li>
<li>immunisation</li>
<li>pharmacology</li>
<li>suturing</li>
<li>mental health</li>
<li>plastering/strapping.</li>
</ul>

Phase 2 
This course will provide you will the knowledge and skills to administer advanced life support, trauma care, management of burns and mass casualty management within the ADF.

Course: Aeromedical Evacuation (AE) Course 
Duration: 3 weeks 
Location: Health Operational Conversion Unit (HOCU), RAAF Base Amberley, Qld and RAAF Base Richmond, NSW

This course addresses the clinical aspects and practical implications of transporting patients by air and the technical aspects of aircraft preparation for aeromedical evacuation use. The course covers theory and practical phases for the C-17A Globemaster III, C-130J Hercules and the C-27J Spartan aircraft.

Course: Aviation Nursing Course (ANC) 
Duration: 2 weeks 
Location: Institute of Aviation Medicine (IAM), RAAF Base Edinburgh, SA

This course aims to graduate Nurses as Aviation Nurses, who are capable of assisting in the assessment and management of the health of ADF aircrew, provide advice on aviation medicine topics, and health support to ADF flying operations.

Have your current studies sponsored
As an undergraduate studying for a role-relevant degree at an accredited university of your choice, you can join the ADF via Defence University Sponsorship (DUS). This means you&rsquo;ll have your fees paid for, earn a salary while you complete your degree, and walk straight into a great ADF role following graduation.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those already studying a relevant degree (or in some cases, those who have accepted an offer) at an Australian university. You&rsquo;ll earn a salary while you study and have the remainder of your university fees paid in return for a commitment to an officer role.

You'll be paid while you study. On completion of your degree, Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you'll earn at least:

As a Nurse, you'll provide the highest standards of patient care to Air Force and ADF members, and lead teams in a variety of environments. As a healthcare professional, you’ll be an integral part of the Defence Health System working with both Australian Public Service and civilian nursing contractors.

You’ll provide specialist aviation nursing and healthcare services in deployed and non-deployed environments. When called upon, you may be required to assist communities in need both within Australia and overseas.

You could provide health care in modern medical facilities or in remote disaster relief locations. Your initiative and flexibility will allow you to adapt to the dynamics of remote localities, new conditions and other challenges.

In addition to fulfilling a management and leadership role as an officer in the Air Force, you’ll carry out general nursing duties at hospitals and clinics, gaining valuable primary health care skills.
