Eligibility Checklist

Use your specialisation and become a leader in your field
If you&rsquo;re already qualified in healthcare, finance, law, chaplaincy, management, aviation, engineering or education, you can join the ADF part-time as a Specialist Reserve.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those who are a specialist in specific fields.

You'll be paid to train and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you’ll earn a tax-free daily rate of at least:

The pay you receive in the Air Force Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax.

Officer Entry: Specialist Reserve

Depending on your specialist role, other training may be required or offered, such as:

Course: Trauma Nursing Program (TNP) Course 
Duration: 2 days 
Location: HOCU, RAAF Base Amberley, Qld 

This course will train you with the knowledge and skills required to care for trauma patients through a systematic approach.

Course: Military Critical Care Aeromedical Evacuation Team (MCAT) Course 
Duration: 7 days 
Location: HOCU, RAAF Base Amberley, Qld

This course provides you with the skills, knowledge and attitude to apply your existing critical care skills into the aviation environment.

Course: Aviation Nurse Course (ANC) 
Duration: 2 weeks 
Location: Institute of Aviation Medicine (IAM), RAAF Base Edinburgh, SA
This course aims to graduate Nurses as Aviation Nurses, who are capable of assisting in the assessment and management of the health of ADF aircrew, provide advice on aviation medicine topics, and health support to ADF flying operations.

Course: Aeromedical Evacuation (AE) Course 
Duration: 3 weeks 
Location: HOCU, RAAF Base Amberley, Qld and RAAF Base Richmond, NSW

This course addresses the clinical aspects and practical implications of transporting patients by air and the technical aspects of aircraft preparation for aeromedical evacuation use. The course covers theory and practical phases for the C-17A Globemaster III, C-130J Hercules and the C-27J Spartan aircraft.

Every week is different in this exciting and varied role. One day you could be providing health care in modern medical facilities, and the next, in a remote disaster relief location. However, your initiative and flexibility will allow you to adapt to the dynamics of remote localities, new conditions and other challenges.

In addition to fulfilling a management and leadership role as an officer in the Air Force, you’ll carry out general nursing duties at hospitals and clinics, gaining valuable primary healthcare skills.

Build on your current nursing career in this rewarding part-time role, looking after the health care needs of ADF members and assisting local communities in Australia and overseas.
