Find a role in your chosen profession
Apply your existing skills to exciting new challenges in the ADF. Pursue your profession and earn a competitive salary plus allowances and benefits you won&rsquo;t get with other jobs. 
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those who already hold recognised qualifications.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Army you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

General Entry: Qualified

You’ll graduate from recruit training with the rank of Musician (Private) and your pay will increase following completion of IET. Promotion to Lance Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant and Warrant Officer is based on performance, time in rank and vacancies, and will require the successful completion of courses in advanced music studies. 

Commissioned band officers are selected from within the bands with a minimum rank of Sergeant required before selection. All members of the Australian Army Band Corps (AABC) have the opportunity to career advance from Musician (Private Soldier) to commissioned officer ranks within the AABC. Band officers are trained at the Defence Force School of Music.

As an Army Musician, you’ll have the opportunity to stretch your musical skills in a variety of ensembles and groups. You’ll also enjoy the life of a soldier with regular military skills development, physical training and travel opportunities.

Within an Army Band, you&rsquo;ll have the opportunity to work in ensembles such as Concert Band, Marching Band, Big Band, Rock Band, Quintets and Jazz Ensemble, performing music that covers the full spectrum of musical genres from classical to jazz, popular and contemporary. You&rsquo;ll hone your skills while being surrounded by other professional musicians. 
You&rsquo;ll need to be proficient on one of the following instruments: 
<ul>
 <li>
 brass - trumpet, trombone, euphonium, French horn, tuba/sousaphone
 </li>
 <li>rhythm section - keyboard, guitar, bass guitar and drum kit
 </li>
 <li>percussion - percussion (tuned and un-tuned)
 </li>
 <li>woodwind - bassoon, clarinet, flute/piccolo, oboe, saxophone
 </li>
 <li>contemporary vocals - female, male
 </li>
 <li>pipes and drums - bagpipes and highland drums.</li>
</ul>

Expand your musical repertoire across a variety of genres, playing with Army bands at military, community and charity functions across Australia and potentially overseas.
