Receive nationally recognised trade training
Join the ADF and use your existing trade skills in a unique military environment.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those with a nationally recognised trade seeking to undertake hands-on tasks.

You'll be paid to train and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you’ll earn a tax-free daily rate of at least:

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax.

General Entry: Technical Reserve

You&rsquo;ll graduate from recruit training with the rank of Musician (Private) and your pay will increase following completion of IET. Promotion to Lance Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant and Warrant Officer is based on performance, time in rank and vacancies, and will require the successful completion of courses in advanced music studies. These promotion courses are mostly conducted utilising distance learning and residential phases of training.
Corporals are referred to as Non-Commissioned Officers, or NCOs, while Sergeants are called Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs). Warrant Officer Class 1 is the most senior soldier rank. A Corporal will normally have leadership responsibility for a section of instruments and this progressively increases on promotion to Sergeant. A Warrant Officer normally has a substantial personnel management role.&nbsp;
You&rsquo;ll be required to complete an Instrument Skills Assessment Grade 1 and will complete employment training curriculum for Musicians as distance learning over 24 months.

As a musician in the Army, you&rsquo;ll be a soldier who performs as a professional musician in an Army Band. Within an Army Band, you&rsquo;ll have the opportunity to work in ensembles such as Concert Band, Marching Band, Big Band, Rock Band, Quintets and Jazz Ensemble. These groups perform music that covers the full spectrum of musical genres from Classical to Jazz, Popular and Contemporary.
If you&rsquo;re looking to experience adventure and excitement outside the everyday, earn tax-free pay and work as part of a close-knit team, this is an exciting opportunity that can work around your lifestyle.

As an Army Band musician, you&rsquo;ll need to be proficient on one of the following instruments:
<ul>
 <li>Brass: trumpet, trombone, euphonium, French horn, tuba/sousaphone</li>
 <li>Rhythm section: keyboard, guitar, bass guitar and drum kit</li>
 <li>Percussion: percussion (tuned and un-tuned)</li>
 <li>Woodwind: bassoon, clarinet, flute/piccolo, oboe, saxophone</li>
 <li>Contemporary Vocals: female, male&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
 <li>Pipes and Drums: bagpipes and highland drums.</li>
</ul>
