Eligibility Checklist

Join without qualifications
There are many excellent career options in the ADF that generally don&rsquo;t require experience or qualifications. You&rsquo;ll receive all the training you need and be paid while you train.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those seeking general roles and career opportunities.

You'll be paid while you train, and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Employment Training, you’ll earn at least:

In the Army you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

General Entry: Non-technical

On completion of your IET and OJT, you’ll be awarded the following qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Certificate IV in Specialist Driving Operations</li>
<li>Licence to perform Dogging</li>
<li>Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 60 tonnes).</li>
</ul>
Throughout your career, you’ll also have opportunities to develop your skills with further specialist training. Aspects of your training may result in the awarding of civil qualifications such as heavy combination (HC) driver’s licence. Check with your Instructional Staff when you conduct your Initial Employment Training to obtain further information about what qualifications are available.

As a Recovery Mechanic, you’ll be responsible for providing recovery support to Army’s vehicles and equipment, whenever they break down or become bogged, damaged or disabled. You don’t need any experience or qualifications to join, but your confidence, ability to remain calm under pressure and expertise will see you become a highly valued member of your unit.

Working with a team of highly trained Army technicians, you’ll operate state-of-the-art medium and heavy recovery vehicles to retrieve immobilised wheeled and tracked vehicles and equipment. You’ll use winches, cranes and gas cutting equipment to salvage, recover and tow damaged or disabled military vehicles from the battlefield back to base.

You’ll get to experience the unique adventures and challenges that come with providing recovery support to Army vehicles in a range of situations and environments.
