On appointment as a Doctor you will be posted to an Army health unit at the Commissioned rank of Captain. Key part time health units are regionally centred on all capital cities and these units cater for regionally based Doctors.

You will be paid to train and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you’ll earn a tax-free daily rate of at least:

The Australian Army employs a range of personnel in medical craft groups and specialisations. Qualified and registered medical practitioners are members of the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps (RAAMC).
Within the RAAMC, you will gain exposure to modern and mobile operating environments, advanced technology, equipment, materials and assistance that you would have in a civilian practice. Due to the ever changing global situation you could be called on to provide specialist care on land, aviation or maritime/sea environments, to humanitarian situations, major international activities and on operations. Your patients will vary from fit healthy adults to refugees (which may include children and the elderly) and battle casualties.
As a part time Doctor, your primary place of work will see you serve in one of Army's deployable health units. These units are primarily located in Adelaide, Darwin, Townsville, Brisbane and limited appointments in Sydney.
Depending on your reserve service, as an Army Doctor you may deploy in the field, regionally or overseas. During your service you will work in a combination of primary health care settings (health centres and clinics) and will be provided opportunity to undertake relevant clinical placement towards attaining relevant skills Fellowship qualifications.
